A Kenyan Member of Parliament reprereting Nyakach region, MP Aduma Owuor, has been using more than twenty different vehicles and a hearse in attempt to hide his identity whenever he visits his rural home in Nyakach, Kisumu. Whenever he goes to Nyakach he does so unannounced and under the cover of darkness.
He says he is forced to do so in order to evade gangs of cattle rustlers who are believed to be behind the murder of his family(parents) three weeks ago.
“I sometimes drive into my home at 2am in the morning or even at midnight because you never know what is happening around here.I use over 20 different vehicles in a month some of which I have to hire when I am going home” said Mr Adam Owuor. He believes that his cowardice actions of travelling in a hearse will save his life and he would go to any length to do so.
He was threatened his life and said his life has never been the same ever since he received live bullets in a parcel addressed to him two years ago when he was the director in charge of legal affairs at the Kisumu County.
He is sometimes forced to hold meetings even at 3am in the morning before he drives home in Kisumu and to fly back to Nairobi for his legislative duties. He however has hired guards to patrol his rural home to watch over the mourners who stay there in tension and fear after the death of the MP's parents.
"Friends and relatives have been visiting our family to condole with them during the day, but owing to the insecurity, the normal tradition of mourning overnight around an open fire has been abandoned due to what relative described as deep fear and despair" said Mr Owuor.
The Kenyan nation visited the Mp's home but Mr Owuor was forced to arrive in a decrepit four-wheel drive you would rarely see an MP with.
The MP's parents, Francis (83) and Francisca Owuor (68) were attecked in their home and beaten to death and their house set on fire by a gang that stole nothing during the attack. The house maid was kidnapped but returned home a few hours through a back entry connecting to Mr Owuor's grandparents home. This incident occured after Mr Owuor said in parliament that his life was in danger.
